Someone recently sent me some information about Prof Jane Plant (UK) and the books and research she has done to link dairy products with breast (and prostate) cancer. Are you familiar with her books or her research? I am a survivor of breast cancer, and I want to do everything I can to prevent its return. Do you think just avoiding dairy products is the answer? As far as I can see, this lady does not advocate a totally plant-based diet, but claims her tumor disappeared when she stopped eating dairy altogether. She was already on a low-fat high fiber diet (not totally plant based). Does anyone out there have thoughts on dairy products? I also suffer from osteoporosis and have heard that milk is not a good source of calcium for this - in fact may be detrimental.

Hi Roberta,
Those are good questions that you ask.
No I am not familiar with Prof. Jane Plant but I agree that drinking milk today is hazardous to your health and I believe that you would be wise to leave cows milk alone to avoid osteoporosis and also your breast cancer returning.
I do not think any one thing is the answer to any question of health or disease. There are 8 true remedies and all 8 are important:
fresh air, sunshine, self-control, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power--these are the true remedies. They are all important every day and every day.
Osteoporosis is largely a protein excess disease as well as a lack of exercise and sunshine problem. Cows milk is just perfect for baby cows that need to put on a thousand pounds or so of body weight in a couple of years. However for humans it has far too much protein. The body has to get rid of the extra protein in the diet that is in excess of our daily needs. Proteins are amino acids and as acids need to be neutralized by calcium (from our bones) to be excreted from the body. So avoid cows milk unless you are a baby cow!
The other thing about cows milk is that over 80% of our nation's dairy herds have bovine leukemia viruses according to testing results. This means that cows milk usually has the virus that causes leukemia that can give you trouble too. So just leave the cows milk to cows and we will avoid a lot of grief.
Daily practice the 8 true remedies and you will continue to smile.
Blessings,

I wonder if anyone else out there is familiar with these eight remedies? Anyone? Is there somewhere I can find more details about these eight remedies? I don't believe I've heard of them listed so succinctly before. We live in such a polluted world, it seems difficult to find clean air or clean water in some areas. What if you live in a large metropolitan area? Or in California right now with smoke everywhere from more than 1000 wildfires? Life is a challenge at times.

Hi Roberta,
Yes, forest fire smoke definitely is a challenge for maintaining health. I would consider wearing some kind of mask when I had to venture outside for any length of time.
I have found the eight natural remedies very useful in my life. I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian that also ate some fish for many years. I had always suffered from allergies since I was a child. As an adult I tried allergy shots (for ten years) and oral allergy medication. I was allergic to pretty much all grasses, many trees and flowers, and so forth. I even tried herbs for controlling my sneezy-wheezy symptoms. Eventually a friend sent me some information on getting all animal products out of my diet. In desperation I decided to give it a try. I started at Christmas and was very surprised when I sailed through the spring allergy season completely unaffected! Then I met a lady who ran a vegetarian restaurant near where I lived who introduced me to the concept of all eight natural remedies, and I have never turned back. You can google NEW START on the internet. NEW START stands for nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperance, air (as in fresh air), rest, and trust in God, which are the eight natural remedies. It is a lifestyle approach (that includes diet) that really does make a huge difference in how one feels and functions.
I had rheumatic fever as a child and by my forties I was experiencing congestive heart failure and other rheumatic heart issues. Seven years after switching to the eight natural remedies, I flew from the flat Midwest plains out to Yosemite where I met a friend for a week of camping and hiking. We hiked up to the top of Half Dome and back down in the same day. The hiking up part was an elevation increase of 4800 ft!!! From where we were parked in the valley floor the whole adventure was about 19 miles round trip. And I was able to do it!!! Afterwards, after resting about an hour, I was able to go walking in the evening. The eight natural remedies lifestyle does work.
